Network Service in a Service Network was the motto with which four graduates of the Georg August University of Göttingen started SerNet in 1996-1997. Services for the areas Linux, SAMBA and network security are provided in a whole spectrum of products ranging from consulting, training and support, offered nation-wide and exclusively for commercial clients.
SerNet is the leader service provider for SAMBA, which provides the most popular OpenSource alternative to Windows servers. SerNet's services include hosting the official German SAMBA pages, organizing the only world-wide developer conference samba eXPerience, legally representing the Samba team in the German-speaking world in the areas of marketing, licensing, and patents.
SerNet is currently one of the leading network security and OpenSource companies in Northern Germany. In 1997, the company helped build SuSE AG's training program as one of SuSE's first training partner turned business partner. Today, SerNet provides Premium Business Support for all of the SuSE Business Products in the entire German-speaking world.
SerNet was and remains an Old Economy business and is therefore not financed by risky capital investments. Superb products and performance at good prices, top-notch and motivated employees as well as a unique marketing position are guarantees for healthy and independent growth for the future.
Currently, 95% of SerNet's revenues are generated by free software, mainly: Linux and SAMBA in around-the-clock support for over 350 well-established customers (4/2003). Among SerNet's business partners are the embedded Linux specialist emlix gmbh, started at the end of 1999, the agency vokativ gmbh, started in Januar 2001, and the consultation firm comlix GmbH, started in April 2003.
